KDR was started on the back of a supporter tour to the Springbok rugby tour to England in July 2001. The business managed to stumble into 2002 after the tragedy of 9/11 stopped a lot of corporates traveling and KDR suffered mass cancellations.
The word diversify was taken note of and KDR started doing a lot more Safari and leisure travel which fitted in nicely with the sports supporter tours. This side soon took over from sports side of the business and was then supplemented by the Soweto tour business started in 2003. Soweto.co.za enjoyed great success and was the first company to do truly experiential tours of Soweto.
The office opened in Durban to deal mainly with Safari business going up the North coast but soon got busy enough to start dealing with all aspects of travel and tours. New websites were acquired and brought under the KDR name and the company seen substantial growth in the next few years2010
It was decided in 2010 to split the wheels ( vehicles ) side of the business and the leisure side into 2 companies.
The wheels side became KDA Tours and took on new directors. KDA concentrates on the Soweto tour business and remains based in Joburg, while KDR and the leisure and corporate side remained in Durban.
KDR had been in business for 10 years and some consultants had been with us for 6 years by 2012.
Marriages, babies and moves threatened to break up a great team so we worked out a way for some of our consultants to work from home and KDR kept all those years of experience in the company.
We have the head office in Kloof, KZN with more consultants in Joburg, Durban, Hillcrest, Richards Bay and Cape Town dealing with everything from 1 night city hotel breaks to itineraries going throughout southern Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands lasting weeks.
KDR are SATSA Members and have been since inception. This means we are audited yearly to make sure we have all the right insurances in place, follow certain business practices and are in a sound financial position.
Through a membership scheme SATSA members and their clients are also Bonded through the association.
A lot of our long standing consultants work from home. Some joined us as young ladies and now have families and with the help of technology we have made it possible for them to work from home, from their "virtual KDR offices".
Our head office is in Kloof, KwaZulu Natal where we usually have a couple of consultants catching up with the latest news or having meetings or product knowledge sessions with Suppliers. Those who cannot make it to the office or are in other cities, join us via Skype or Google hangouts for the presentations...
